What does this fault code mean?
The two magnetic sensors in the steering angle sensor pass their signals through four amplifiers before the signals reach the processors. At start-up the amplifiers are checked to make sure they amplify equally. The code is set when the amplification differs between the amplifiers, which is caused by an internal fault in the sensor.
Possible causes
- Internal malfunction within the steering angle sensor (SAS).
What you can do
- 1Switch off the ignition, restart the engine and check whether the code is still stored. Clear it and test drive the car.
- 2With a diagnostic tool, read the counters. Many incorrect cycles compared with correct ones point to a recurring fault.
- 3If the code returns after replacing the contact reel or angle sensor, the steering wheel module (SWM) must also be replaced by a workshop.
- 4The angle sensor affects the anti-spin and stability functions. Have a workshop diagnose and repair it rather than working on the wheel yourself.
Symptoms you may notice5
- A yellow warning symbol and text message show in the display
- The anti-spin and anti-skid warning lamp lights up or behaves abnormally
- The anti-spin function does not work
- The stability function and the active chassis do not work
- The traction control warning lamp lights up
What the fault can affect2
- The sensor warns the other control modules that the data it sends is wrong
- Active yaw control (AYC) is blocked
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
