What does this fault code mean?
The steering angle sensor (SAS) is the only control module communicating on the CAN network, and the code is set when serious interference on the high speed network blocks communication. The cause may be a short or open circuit in the CAN wiring, an internal fault in the sensor, or an internal fault in another control module on the same part of the network.
Possible causes
- Short circuit between the CAN wires.
- Open circuit in one or both CAN wires.
- Internal fault in the steering angle sensor (SAS).
- Internal fault in another control module on the same part of the CAN network.
What you can do
- 1Check the battery voltage and that the fuses for the steering wheel module are intact.
- 2With a diagnostic tool, read the fault codes in every control module and note which ones show communication faults. This helps the workshop find the fault.
- 3Have a workshop measure the resistance and voltage in the HS-CAN wiring, since this needs measuring equipment and knowledge of the network layout.
- 4The angle sensor is part of the steering and stability system. Have a workshop carry out the fault tracing rather than working on the steering wheel yourself.
Symptoms you may notice5
- The information lamp lights up
- The anti-spin warning lamp lights up
- Traction control does not work
- The stability function does not work
- The Four-C function does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The sensor disconnects itself from the CAN bus
