SAS-U001000
VOLVO
SAS-U001000 - Medium speed CAN communication bus. General fault information. No information about the type of fault.
System
Steering Angle Sensor (SAS)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
1 modelXC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named medium speed CAN, it applies to serious interference on the high speed network that blocks CAN communication. The cause may be a short or open circuit in the CAN wiring, or an internal fault in the sensor or in another control module on the same part of the network. The steering angle sensor then shuts itself off.
Possible causes
- Short circuit between the CAN wires.
- Open circuit in one of the CAN wires.
- Internal fault in the steering angle sensor (SAS).
- Internal fault in another control module on the same part of the CAN network.
What you can do
- 1Check that the battery is charged and the fuses are intact. Low voltage can disturb communication between the control modules.
- 2Clear the code, start the engine and check whether it returns. If it comes back, the fault has not been fixed.
- 3With a diagnostic tool, read the fault codes in the other control modules. If several show communication faults, the fault is probably in the network.
- 4The angle sensor is part of the stability system. Have a workshop do the measurements and fault tracing rather than working on the steering wheel yourself.
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect1
- The sensor shuts itself off (bus-off)
