What does this fault code mean?
The two processors in the steering angle sensor receive information from the sensor, perform calculations and compare the results. The code is set when the information does not agree, which is caused by an internal fault in the sensor.
Possible causes
- Internal malfunction within the steering angle sensor (SAS).
What you can do
- 1Switch off the ignition, restart the engine and turn the wheel fully right and then fully left. Check whether the code is still stored.
- 2With a diagnostic tool, read the counters for the code. Many incorrect drive cycles point to a recurring fault.
- 3If the code returns, have a workshop replace the steering wheel module (SWM).
- 4The angle sensor is part of the stability system. Have a workshop diagnose and replace it rather than working on the steering wheel yourself.
Symptoms you may notice5
- The information lamp lights up
- The anti-spin warning lamp lights up
- Traction control does not work
- The stability function does not work
- The Four-C function does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The sensor warns the other control modules that the data it sends is wrong
