What does this fault code mean?
The two processors in the steering angle sensor constantly check each other's communication. The code is set when the control module detects a communication fault between them, and the fault lies in the sensor.
Possible causes
- Internal malfunction within the steering angle sensor (SAS).
What you can do
- 1Start the engine, turn the wheel fully right and then fully left, and set it straight ahead. See whether the code is still stored.
- 2With a diagnostic tool, read the counters. Many incorrect drive cycles point to a recurring fault, while few point to a temporary one.
- 3If the code returns, have a workshop replace the steering wheel module (SWM).
- 4The angle sensor is part of the stability system. Have a workshop diagnose and replace it rather than working on the steering wheel yourself.
Symptoms you may notice5
- The information lamp lights up
- The anti-spin warning lamp lights up
- Traction control does not work
- The stability function does not work
- The Four-C function does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The sensor warns the other control modules that the data it sends is wrong
