What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named battery voltage, it applies when the steering angle sensor compares its voltage with that of the central electronic module (CEM) and the two do not agree. The cause can be poor contact or oxidation at the connector on the steering wheel module, or an internal fault in the sensor.
Possible causes
- Poor contact or oxidised connector on the steering wheel module (SWM).
- Internal malfunction within the sensor (SAS).
What you can do
- 1Clear the code and test drive the car. It mainly needs action if it has been active a long time and a function is lost.
- 2With a diagnostic tool and the ignition on, compare the voltage values of the steering angle sensor and the CEM. They should be roughly the same.
- 3Check that the fuses are intact and that the connectors to the steering wheel module are firmly seated and not corroded.
- 4Have a workshop replace the contact reel or angle sensor if the fault returns. If the code comes back after that, the steering wheel module (SWM) must be replaced.
- 5The angle sensor is part of the steering and stability system. Have a workshop carry out the checks and repair rather than working on the steering wheel yourself.
Symptoms you may notice5
- The information lamp lights up
- The anti-spin warning lamp lights up
- Traction control and the stability function do not work
- The Four-C function does not work
- A yellow warning symbol and text message show in the display
What the fault can affect2
- The stability function is blocked
- The sensor warns the other control modules that the data it sends is wrong
