Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
6 modelsS60 (2011–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), XC60 (2009–)
What does this fault code mean?
The right side obstacle detection control module (SODR) sends and receives information on the vehicle's CAN network. The code is set when incorrect messages are sent or received between the SODR and the central electronic module (CEM). The fault lies in poor contact or an open circuit in the wires between them.
Possible causes
- Poor contact, contact resistance or oxidation at the connections
- Open circuit in the CAN wires running between the module and the CEM
What you can do
- 1Check that the connections to the SODR are secure and not oxidised, and wiggle them gently
- 2Disconnect the battery negative lead and use a multimeter to check that the CAN wires between the SODR and CEM have no open circuit or short to ground or voltage
- 3While you measure, gently wiggle the wires and connectors along the cable harness and see whether the reading changes
- 4Clear the fault codes, start the car, let it run for a while and read the fault codes again to see whether the fault has gone
- 5Do not replace the central electronic module (CEM) unless a workshop has established that it has an internal fault
Symptoms you may notice3
- Blind spot warning (BLIS) stops working
- Cross traffic alert (CTA) does not work
- Yellow warning symbol and message in the display
