Volvo models this fault code applies to
This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The supplemental restraint system (SRS) control module has registered that the capacitance in the circuit for the driver's airbag stage 2 has been too low for a longer period. The fault is intermittent, meaning it has occurred at some point but may not be present right now. The cause is in the connector for the ignition cable, where the built-in capacitor may be open-circuit.
Possible causes
- Capacitance too low in the circuit
- Open circuit in the built-in capacitor in the connector to the ignition cable
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Have a workshop check that the connector to the ignition cable and the connector to the airbag are fully engaged and not oxidised or damaged
- 3Have a workshop check the contact reel connector in the same way, if it can be reached without dismantling
- 4If the code returns: have a workshop measure the contact resistance and the capacitor in the connector with diagnostic equipment
- 5Do not work on the airbag system yourself; a workshop should carry out any work on the wiring and connectors
Symptoms you may notice1
- The SRS warning lamp is lit
