Volvo models this fault code applies to
This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The SRS control module has registered that the resistance in the circuit for the driver's airbag stage 2 has been too low for a longer period. The fault is intermittent, meaning it has occurred at some point but may not be present right now. The cause may be a short circuit in the ignition cable, in the connectors, in the contact reel or in the airbag.
Possible causes
- Short circuit on the igniter lead or its plugs, running from the airbag to the SRS control module
- Short circuit in the airbag, so that the igniter has too low a resistance
- Short circuit in the contact reel
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Have a workshop check that the connectors to the driver's airbag, the contact reel and the control module are fully engaged and not oxidised or damaged
- 3Have a workshop check that the wiring to the contact reel and the airbag is not chafed or pinched
- 4If the code returns: have a workshop measure the resistance in the circuit with diagnostic equipment
- 5Do not work on the airbag system yourself; a workshop should carry out all work on the airbag, contact reel and wiring
Symptoms you may notice1
- The SRS warning lamp is lit
