What does this fault code mean?
The SRS control module has registered that the voltage in the ignition cable to the adaptive steering column has been too high for a longer period. The cause is a short circuit to the power supply, meaning the cable has come into contact with a live part. The fault can be intermittent or permanent.
Possible causes
- Short to supply voltage on the igniter lead, or on its plugs, between the SRS control module and the adaptive steering column
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2If the fault is intermittent: have a workshop check the cables and connectors at the adaptive steering column and repair whatever is faulty
- 3Have a workshop check that the wiring at the steering column is not chafed or pinched where it moves as the wheel turns
- 4If the fault remains: have a workshop check the cable for short circuit to voltage with diagnostic equipment
- 5The steering column is a safety part of the car; a workshop should carry out all work on the airbag system wiring
Symptoms you may notice2
- The SRS warning lamp is lit
- An SRS warning message is displayed
