What does this fault code mean?
The SRS control module has registered faulty communication on the signal line to the driver's seat belt reel sensor for a longer period. The reel sensor sits in the same unit as the belt tensioner, so the control module cannot read its signal and the SRS warning appears.
Possible causes
- Broken wire or poor contact in the signal line or the plugs between the SRS module and the reel sensor
- Open circuit in the driver's seat belt reel sensor
- Damaged reel sensor, so communication with the control module fails
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code with diagnostic equipment and note whether it is permanent or intermittent
- 2Have a workshop check that the connector at the driver's seat belt reel sensor is secure and free from corrosion
- 3Have a workshop check chafing or pinch damage on the cable to the reel sensor
- 4Have a workshop check the signal cable to the SRS control module, as it is part of the airbag system
- 5If no fault is found, the reel sensor is what needs replacing; it sits in the same unit as the belt tensioner, so a workshop replaces both
- 6Do not work on the airbag system or the belt tensioner yourself; have a workshop check it
Symptoms you may notice2
- The general warning lamp lights
- An SRS warning message is displayed
