Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The supplemental restraint system (SRS) receives no signal from the occupant weight sensor (OWS), or the voltage from the sensor is too low or missing. The passenger airbag is then deactivated, and the SRS and PAD lamps come on together with an SRS warning message.
Possible causes
- Open circuit or short-circuit in the signal cable (LIN bus) or in the connectors between the SRS module and the occupant weight sensor
- Damaged occupant weight sensor (OWS)
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the code, and check whether it returns after a restart
- 2Have a workshop check the power supply from the central electronic module (CEM) to the occupant weight sensor, including the fuse and the ground connection
- 3Have a workshop check the LIN communication wiring and the connectors to the occupant weight sensor for open circuits
- 4If required, have a workshop replace the pressure sensor and module in the occupant weight sensor, then configure SRS and calibrate the sensor
- 5Do not work on the airbag system yourself; have a workshop carry out all work on the SRS and airbags
Symptoms you may notice3
- SRS warning lamp on
- Passenger airbag deactivation (PAD) lamp on
- An SRS warning message is shown
What the fault can affect1
