What does this fault code mean?
The airbag control module communicates on the high speed CAN network, and communication on that network is disturbed. The disturbance comes either from another control module on the network or from the module's own messages. The fault has no more specific description than a general communication fault.
Possible causes
- Short-circuit between the CAN wiring
- Open-circuit in one of the CAN wires
- Internal fault in another control module on the same part of the CAN network
- Internal fault in the control module
What you can do
- 1Read out all fault codes in the car and start with those relating to communication faults
- 2If the fault comes and goes, it may be caused by a temporarily broken power supply or ground to a control module on the network
- 3Have a workshop measure the resistance of the CAN network and check the wiring for open-circuits and short-circuits
- 4Have a workshop find disturbing control modules by disconnecting the power supply to one at a time, and remedy the wiring as needed
- 5Do not work on the airbag system yourself; have a workshop carry out all wiring and control module checks
Symptoms you may notice3
- Yellow warning symbol and text message in the display
- Red warning symbol and text message in the display
- The SRS warning light comes on or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect2
- The control module shuts itself off ("bus-off")
- It stays off until the power supply is broken; when power is reconnected it tries to communicate again
