What does this fault code mean?
The airbag control module has registered incorrect messages sent or received on the high speed CAN network. The fault may be caused by a short-circuit to ground or to supply voltage on one or both CAN wires in part of the network. It is a general electrical fault with no further description.
Possible causes
- Short-circuit to ground or to supply voltage on one or both CAN wires in part of the network
What you can do
- 1Read out all fault codes in the car and start with those relating to communication faults
- 2Have a workshop measure the resistance of the CAN wiring and check for short-circuits to ground and to supply voltage in the part of the network affected
- 3Have a workshop check the wiring in the part of the CAN network where the fault is found, and remedy it
- 4After a repair, erase the code and see whether it returns
- 5Do not work on the airbag system yourself; have a workshop carry out all wiring and control module checks
Symptoms you may notice2
- Text message in the display
- The SRS warning light comes on or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect2
- The control module shuts itself off ("bus-off")
- It stays off until the power supply is broken; when power is reconnected it tries to communicate again
