Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
7 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The airbag control module has its own internal CAN network, and communication on it is disturbed. The disturbance comes either from another control module or from the module's own messages. The fault code is set whether the fault is in the internal network or in the local sensor CAN.
Possible causes
- Short-circuit between the internal CAN wiring or other wiring
- Open-circuit in one of the internal CAN wires
- Short-circuit to battery or to ground
- Internal fault in another control module on the internal CAN network or on the local network
- Damaged supplemental restraint system control module
What you can do
- 1Read out all fault codes in the car and start with those relating to communication
- 2Have a workshop check the CAN communication between the airbag module, the closing velocity module (CVM) and the passenger weight sensor, where fitted to the market
- 3Have a workshop check the sensor CAN wiring for short-circuits to ground and battery and for open-circuits
- 4If no fault is found in the wiring, have a workshop fault-trace the closing velocity module (CVM)
- 5Do not work on the airbag system yourself; have a workshop carry out all wiring and control module checks
Symptoms you may notice3
- The SRS warning light comes on or behaves abnormally
- Yellow warning symbol and text message in the display
- Red warning symbol and text message in the display
What the fault can affect3
- The control module shuts itself off ("bus-off")
- It stays off until the power supply is broken; when power is reconnected it tries to communicate again
- Communication with the local network is cut off by the control module
