What does this fault code mean?
The airbag control module normally receives continuous information from the central electronic module (CEM) over CAN. If communication with the CEM stops, the code is set. The fault may come from open-circuits or short-circuits on the CAN wiring, or from an incorrect signal configuration.
Possible causes
- The fault cause may lie in the central electronic module (CEM), which is the transmitting control module
- The CEM is no longer transmitting the signal that the airbag module expects
- Intermittent open-circuits or short-circuits on the CAN wiring
- Incorrect signal configuration after a control module has been replaced without new software being loaded
What you can do
- 1Read out the fault codes in the car and start with those relating to the central electronic module (CEM)
- 2If the fault seems to come and go, erase the code and see whether it is not set again
- 3Have a workshop fault-trace the CEM and its CAN wiring; the CEM is only replaced if it has an internal fault
- 4If the code is stored only in the airbag module, have a workshop load new software into it
- 5Do not work on the airbag system yourself; have a workshop carry out all wiring and control module checks
