VOLVO
SUM-C1A0311 - Left Front Height Sensor. General Electrical Failures. Circuit short to ground
System
Suspension Module (SUM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
7 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The suspension control module (SUM) receives too low a signal from the left front height sensor. The height sensor is mechanically linked to the suspension by a link arm, and the fault is caused by the signal wire being short-circuited to ground, the sensor lacking its supply, or a damaged sensor. Four-C is switched off.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Signal wire from the height sensor is short-circuited to ground
- Height sensor has no supply voltage
- Damaged height sensor
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses for the suspension system are intact, as shown in the owner's manual
- 2Check that the connector at the left front height sensor is firmly seated and not corroded
- 3Check that the link arm between the height sensor and the left front suspension is secure and undamaged
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the height sensor has no contact with ground (the body), with the ignition switched off
- 5With a diagnostic tool, watch the height sensor value in live data while you press down the left front corner of the car
- 6If the fault remains: have a workshop check the height sensor and the wiring
