What does this fault code mean?
The SUM cannot communicate over the car's CAN network, the network the control modules use to exchange information. The fault code is set when the SUM detects that the communication has stopped.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections
- A break in one or both signal wires in the CAN network
- One or both signal wires are short-circuited to ground, to voltage or to each other
- Faulty suspension control module (SUM)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in all control modules, clear them and road test the car: communication faults often show in several modules at once
- 2Check that the relevant fuses are intact; their locations are in the owner's manual
- 3Has any work been done on the car's electrical system recently? Tell the workshop if you take the car in
- 4Check that the connectors at the SUM and along the CAN wiring are firm and free from corrosion
- 5Inspect the wiring for chafing and pinch damage
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the CAN network, since a faulty message may originate in any module on the network
Symptoms you may notice3
- General warning lamp on
- A message appears in the information display
- The Four-C function does not work
What the fault can affect2
- CAN communication stops
- Four-C regulation is blocked
