SUM-U042868 - Invalid Data Received From Steering Angle Sensor Module. Algorithm Based Failures. Event information
System
Suspension Module (SUM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
7 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The SUM has received a faulty or invalid message about steering angle or steering angle speed from the steering angle sensor (SAS) over the CAN network. The code is event-driven and is information rather than a fault in the SUM. It does not need to be cleared and goes away by itself.
Possible causes
- Fault in the steering angle sensor (SAS)
- Fault in the CAN network
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool, read the fault codes in the steering angle sensor (SAS), since the incorrect data comes from there
- 2Deal with any fault codes in the SAS first, then check whether this code is still present
- 3If there are also communication faults in the SUM, check the fault codes in the central electronic module (CEM)
- 4Inspect the connectors and wiring in the CAN network for loose connections, chafing and pinch damage
- 5The fault concerns steering angle: have a workshop check the steering angle sensor and the steering system, and do not work on them yourself
Symptoms you may notice2
- A message appears in the information display
- The Four-C function does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The Four-C function is switched off
