What does this fault code mean?
The steering wheel module (SWM) logged that its calibration data has been erased. It then tells the brake control module (BCM) that the steering angle is unknown, because it cannot know the angle until the wheel has been turned some distance in either direction.
Possible causes
- Internal error in the steering wheel module (SWM)
What you can do
- 1Turn the steering wheel some distance one way and then the other so that the module can recalibrate
- 2Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 3Stability control is switched off while the fault is present, and the brake control module (BCM) lacks the angle, so drive carefully until it has been repaired
- 4If the fault returns, have a workshop replace the steering wheel module (SWM)
Symptoms you may notice2
- Traction control warning lamp lit
- The stability control system does not function
What the fault can affect1
- Active yaw control (AYC) is blocked
