What does this fault code mean?
The steering wheel module (SWM) has registered that communication with the left steering wheel switch (SWSL) is disturbed or missing, and the switch does not respond to signals. The signals travel over LIN communication, so the fault can lie in the switch, in the cable to it or in the steering wheel module.
Possible causes
- Communication problems, with the left steering wheel switch (SWSL) not responding
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the buttons on the left steering wheel switch and check in live data that the status changes
- 2Switch the ignition off and check the connector and wiring to the left steering wheel switch for loose contacts, corrosion and breaks
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wiring to the steering wheel switch has no open circuit
- 4If no fault is found, have a workshop replace the steering wheel switch (SWSL)
- 5If the fault remains after replacement, have a workshop check the steering wheel module (SWM)
- 6Reconnect the connectors properly, clear the fault code and check that the buttons work again
Symptoms you may notice1
- The cruise control does not work at all
