What does this fault code mean?
The control module registers a signal that is too high in the circuit for shift solenoid S2 when the solenoid should not be activated. Solenoid S2 works together with S1, and depending on the gearbox design it is active in 1st and 2nd gear, or in reverse and in 2nd and 3rd gear.
Possible causes
- Signal wire short-circuited to supply voltage
- Internal fault in the control module
What you can do
- 1The fault can be caused by a faulty oil temperature sensor. With a diagnostic tool, check that the oil temperature in live data rises during a test drive
- 2Read and clear the fault code, then road test the car
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: activate solenoid S2 with the selector in position P and check in live data that the value switches between off and on
- 4Have a workshop measure the signal wire to solenoid S2 against supply voltage and ground at the transmission connector, and check the wires in the harness against each other
- 5If no fault is found in the wiring, have a workshop replace solenoid S2 and reset the transmission adaptation and oil quality counter
Symptoms you may notice5
- The general orange warning lamp is lit
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is lit
- No lock-up function
- Gear shifts are harsh
- No gear shifts
What the fault can affect2
- The control module's emergency program (Limp-home) is activated
- The Emergency mode I program in the transmission control module is activated
