What does this fault code mean?
The control module has detected a signal that is too low on the wire for shift solenoid S2 while it is meant to be on, so the solenoid cannot be switched on. The signal can be too low when the signal wire is short-circuited to ground.
Possible causes
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
- Defective solenoid
- Internal fault in the control module
What you can do
- 1The fault can be caused by a faulty oil temperature sensor. With a diagnostic tool, follow the oil temperature in live data during a test drive and check that it rises
- 2Clear the fault code and road test the car
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: activate solenoid S2 with the selector in position P and check in live data that the value switches between off and on
- 4Check that the connectors to the transmission and the control module are secure and free from corrosion
- 5If no short to ground is found in the wire, have a workshop check solenoid S2 and the control module
Symptoms you may notice5
- The general orange warning lamp is lit
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is lit
- Gear shifts are harsh
- No gear shifts
- No lock-up function
What the fault can affect2
- Gear 5 is blocked
- The control module's emergency program (Limp-home) is activated
