What does this fault code mean?

The signal to line pressure solenoid STH is too low. The fault is intermittent, so it may have occurred on an earlier occasion without being active right now. The solenoid controls the line pressure in the transmission, so the fault can affect how the gears feel.

    Possible causes

    • The control signal wire or the signal wire is short-circuited to ground
    • Defective STH solenoid

    What you can do

    1. 1The fault is intermittent: clear the fault code and road test the car to see whether it returns
    2. 2Check the connectors on the control module and on the transmission for contact resistance and oxidation
    3. 3Have a workshop measure the control signal wire and the signal wire to STH against ground, and replace the solenoid if the wires are intact

    Symptoms you may notice4

    • The general orange warning lamp is lit
    • The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is lit
    • No lock-up function
    • Gear shifts are harsh

    What the fault can affect3

    • The control module's emergency program (Limp-home) is activated
    • Line pressure is not regulated, so it stays at maximum all the time and gear shifts are harsher
    • Gear slip times are not adapted when driving at high altitude

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
