What does this fault code mean?
The control module has detected that no signal reaches lock-up solenoid SL at a time when the solenoid should be energised, so the solenoid cannot be switched on. The lock-up solenoid controls the lock-up function in the transmission. The fault is intermittent, so it may have occurred on an earlier occasion without being active now.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Defective solenoid
What you can do
- 1The fault is intermittent: clear the fault code and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connectors on the control module and the transmission for contact resistance and oxidation, and twist the wiring harness at the connectors to see whether the fault comes and goes
- 3If the fault remains, have a workshop check the signal wire to the lock-up solenoid for an open circuit, and replace the solenoid if the wire is intact
Symptoms you may notice4
- The general orange warning lamp is lit
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is lit
- No lock-up function
- Gear shifts may feel harsh, because gear slip times are not adapted when driving at high altitude
What the fault can affect1
- The control module does not switch the lock-up solenoid on
