What does this fault code mean?
The signal to lock-up solenoid SL is too low, which means the wire is short-circuited to ground. The solenoid then cannot be activated when it should be. The fault is intermittent, so it may have been present on an earlier occasion without being active now.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Defective solenoid
What you can do
- 1The fault is intermittent: clear the fault code, road test the car and see whether it returns
- 2Check the connectors on the control module and the transmission for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3If the fault remains, have a workshop measure the signal wire to the lock-up solenoid against ground, and replace the solenoid if the wire is intact
Symptoms you may notice4
- The general orange warning lamp is lit
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is lit
- No lock-up function
- Gear shifts may feel harsh, because gear slip times are not adapted when driving at high altitude
What the fault can affect1
- The control module does not switch the lock-up solenoid on
