Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The control module checks whether lock-up solenoid SL is stuck open or closed by comparing the signals from the solenoid with pressure sensor PS4, which detects whether the solenoid is activated. If the signals do not match for a certain time, the fault code is set. The lock-up solenoid controls the lock-up function in the transmission.
Possible causes
- Lock-up solenoid SL has stuck in the open or closed position
- Defective lock-up solenoid SL
What you can do
- 1Have a workshop check the transmission fluid for metal particles
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: activate lock-up solenoid SL and listen for a click from the transmission
- 3If the solenoid does not click, this points to a mechanical fault; have a workshop replace lock-up solenoid SL
- 4Road test the car and listen for clear noises or malfunctions from the transmission
- 5Have a workshop check contact resistance and oxidation at the transmission and control module connectors; if the check shows a mechanical fault in the transmission, it must be replaced
Symptoms you may notice3
- The automatic transmission warning lamp flashes
- No lock-up function
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is lit
What the fault can affect1
- The control module does not switch the lock-up solenoid on
