What does this fault code mean?
The control module has not received a signal from the transmission speed sensor, which measures the speed of the output drive shaft. The signal is used for working out the transmission's gear ratio and for diagnostics.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections
- The transmission speed sensor is loose
- The transmission speed sensor does not function
- Fault inside the transmission control module (TCM)
What you can do
- 1Check the connectors to the transmission speed sensor and to the control module for contact resistance and oxidation
- 2Clear the fault code and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 3Have a workshop check that the transmission speed sensor is correctly installed and not damaged
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop replace the transmission speed sensor and check the control module
Symptoms you may notice5
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is lit
- The general warning lamp is lit
- No lock-up function
- Gear shifts are harsh
- No gear shifts
What the fault can affect3
- Transmission adaptation is blocked
- Lock-up and slipping lock-up are blocked
- Neutral check is blocked
