What does this fault code mean?
The automatic transmission control module has not received a signal from the transmission speed sensor, which it relies on to choose the right gear. The fault is intermittent, so it may have occurred earlier without being active now.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Open circuit in the power supply
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Defective speed sensor
What you can do
- 1Because the fault is intermittent, check the connectors to the control module and the speed sensor for contact resistance and oxidation, and wiggle them to see if the fault comes and goes
- 2After clearing the fault code, road test the car and see if the code comes back
- 3If the fault remains, have a workshop check the wiring between the control module and the speed sensor, including the power supply, and replace the sensor if it is faulty
Symptoms you may notice4
- The general orange warning lamp is lit
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is lit
- No lock-up function
- Gear shifts are harsh
