What does this fault code mean?
The control module works out the gear ratio for sixth gear from the input and output speed signals and compares it with the expected ratio for that gear. When the ratio deviates, sixth gear is not working as it should. The fault may lie in a regulating solenoid or in mechanical parts of the transmission.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the circuits to solenoids SLT and SLC3, or one of them regulating incorrectly
- Mechanical fault in the transmission, where worn components cause slipping or too low system pressure
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in all control modules and deal with any other codes first
- 2Have a workshop check the transmission oil level and quality, and change the oil if it smells burnt
- 3Check that the connectors in the transmission and the control module are firmly seated and free from corrosion
- 4Have a workshop check solenoids SLT and SLC3 in the transmission control system; if no fault is found in the connectors or wiring, the transmission must be replaced
- 5Clear the fault code and road test the car to see whether it returns
Symptoms you may notice5
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is lit
- The general warning lamp is lit
- The gears slip abnormally
- Gear shifts are harsh
- No gear shifts
What the fault can affect1
- An auxiliary program starts in the transmission control module
