What does this fault code mean?
The control module has repeatedly registered vibrations from slipping lock-up. The code indicates that the lock-up function is not working properly and that the transmission judders when lock-up engages.
Possible causes
- Poor quality transmission fluid
- Glycol in the transmission fluid
- Worn torque converter
- Mechanical fault in the transmission
What you can do
- 1Have a workshop take a sample of the transmission fluid to check for metal particles, and check the oil level for leaks
- 2Check the coolant level and see whether it falls without any visible leak; have a workshop check whether coolant has entered the transmission fluid
- 3Road test the car and listen for clear noises from the transmission, and feel for jerks when lock-up engages
- 4Have a workshop confirm the control module runs the newest software, and load it if a newer version exists
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop replace the torque converter or the transmission, as the fault-tracing indicates
Symptoms you may notice5
- High coolant consumption
- Vibrations
- Harsh gear shifting
- The automatic transmission warning light blinks
- No lock-up function
What the fault can affect2
- Slipping lock-up is switched off temporarily
- The control module does not energise the lock-up solenoid
