What does this fault code mean?
The gear lever position (P, R, N or D) reaches the gear-shift position sensor, which is built into the transmission control module, through a cable. The sensor is of Hall type, and the control module has registered an incorrect signal from one of the Hall sensors.
Possible causes
- The gear-shift position sensor is damaged
- The connector or cable is damaged
What you can do
- 1Have a workshop confirm that the gearshift cable is adjusted properly, and adjust it if needed
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: compare the gear shown in live data with the position of the lever when you move it to P, R, N and D
- 3Clear the fault code and check whether it returns
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop check the connector and wiring to the gear-shift position sensor, and replace the mechatronic unit if the sensor is at fault
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
