What does this fault code mean?
Transmission fluid quality falls if the oil stays too hot for a long time. The control module has registered that the oil temperature has been too high for too long. The cause can be the sensor, a short to ground in the signal wire, or heavy load and high ambient temperature on the transmission.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
- Defective oil temperature sensor
- Mechanical fault in the transmission
- The transmission has been exposed to heavy load and high ambient temperature
What you can do
- 1Have a workshop change the transmission fluid, since heavy load in warm weather has affected the oil, and road test the transmission afterwards
- 2Have a workshop check the wire from the oil temperature sensor to ground, and the connectors for contact resistance
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: read the oil temperature in live data on a test drive and see how the value develops
- 4Clear the fault code and road test the car to see whether it returns
Symptoms you may notice2
- The general orange warning lamp is lit
- The automatic transmission warning light blinks
What the fault can affect1
- The control module uses no substitute values for the oil temperature
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
