What does this fault code mean?
The oil temperature sensor gives the control module a signal used, among other things, for temperature-controlled lock-up and for switching in high-temperature programs. The signal is too low, which can be caused by a short in the wiring or a damaged sensor.
Possible causes
- Power supply and signal wire are short-circuited to each other
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
- Defective oil temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool: compare the oil temperature in live data with the transmission temperature and check that the values are reasonable
- 2Switch the ignition off and have a workshop check the connectors for contact resistance and oxidation; if the temperature is reasonable, the connector was likely the cause
- 3Have a workshop check the wires between the sensor and the control module for short circuits to ground and to each other
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop check the oil temperature sensor and replace it if needed
Symptoms you may notice5
- The general orange warning lamp is lit
- No lock-up function
- Gear shifts are harsh
- The automatic transmission warning light blinks
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is lit
What the fault can affect1
- The control module has no substitute values to fall back on
