What does this fault code mean?
The signal from the oil temperature sensor is too high, so the sensor gives the control module a wrong picture of the oil temperature. The cause can be contact resistance, an open circuit in the signal or ground wire, a short to supply voltage in the signal wire, or a defective sensor.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Open circuit in the signal wire or the ground wire
- The signal wire is short-circuited to supply voltage
- Defective oil temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool: read the oil temperature and check that it is reasonable; if it is not, the sensor or its wires are probably at fault
- 2Switch the ignition off and have a workshop check the connectors on the control module and the transmission for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Have a workshop check the signal and ground wires to the sensor for open circuits, and for short circuits to supply voltage between the wires
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop replace the oil temperature sensor
Symptoms you may notice4
- The general orange warning lamp is lit
- Gear shifts are harsh
- The automatic transmission warning light blinks
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is lit
What the fault can affect1
- The control module has no substitute values for the sensor
