What does this fault code mean?
The transmission control module receives a faulty signal from the oil temperature sensor, which is used for temperature-controlled lock-up and high-temperature programs. The cause may be a defective sensor or a fault in the connectors or wiring.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Open circuit in the signal or ground wire
- The signal wire is short-circuited to supply voltage
- Defective oil temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool: read the oil temperature after the car has been driven for a few minutes in drive, and compare it with the transmission temperature
- 2Switch the ignition off and have a workshop check the connectors for contact resistance and oxidation; if the temperature is reasonable, the connector was likely the cause
- 3Have a workshop check the signal wire to the sensor for an open circuit and for a short circuit to supply voltage and to other wires
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop check the sensor and, if the fault is inside the transmission, replace the transmission
Symptoms you may notice1
- The general orange warning lamp is lit
What the fault can affect3
- The control module has no substitute values to use for the oil temperature
- Lock-up and slipping lock-up are blocked
- Neutral check is blocked
