What does this fault code mean?
The transmission control module has found that its software is not adapted to the engine and transmission fitted to the car. The software must be the correct version for that combination for the transmission to work properly. When the engine, transmission and software do not match, the code is set.
Possible causes
- Wrong software loaded in the transmission control unit (TCM)
- Wrong transmission fitted, for example after a transmission was replaced
What you can do
- 1Read off and clear the fault code, then road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 2Think about whether the transmission has been replaced, as the engine, transmission and software must then match each other
- 3Have a workshop order and load the software that belongs to the car's engine and transmission; this is a workshop task
Symptoms you may notice2
- General orange warning lamp on
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) flashing
What the fault can affect1
- The control module's Limp Home program has been activated
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
