What does this fault code mean?
The transmission control module (TCM) has found that lock-up solenoid SL has stuck at an intermediate position, neither fully open nor fully closed. The control module compares the solenoid signal with the signal from the lock-up pressure sensor, which detects whether the solenoid is activated. The lock-up function therefore cannot be controlled as it should be.
Possible causes
- Lock-up solenoid SL has stuck
- Mechanical fault in the transmission control system
- Defective solenoid SL
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 2Check the transmission oil level and quality. If there is water in the oil, a workshop should check and replace the oil cooler and the hoses to the transmission
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wires to the solenoid have no open circuit and are not shorted to ground
- 4If the fault remains, the transmission control system may need replacing, and sometimes the transmission itself; a workshop does this
Symptoms you may notice2
- General orange warning lamp on
- No lock-up function
What the fault can affect1
- The control module no longer switches on the lock-up solenoid
