What does this fault code mean?
The transmission control module has checked that gear 6 engages as it should. The signals show that the transmission ratio is close to a gear other than the one the control module has selected, so gear 6 is engaged incorrectly.
Possible causes
- Poor contact, or a solenoid jammed in the OFF or ON position
- Mechanical faults in the transmission
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 2Check that the transmission oil is at the right level and does not smell burnt; if the level is low, look for leaks before topping up
- 3Have a diagnostic tool? Read the current gear in live data while the car is running in sixth and see whether it matches
- 4Have a workshop check the solenoids and the connectors in the transmission; if no fault is found the control system may need replacing
Symptoms you may notice4
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) on
- General warning lamp on
- Abnormally slipping gear changes
- No gear changes
What the fault can affect1
- The transmission switches over to an auxiliary program
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
