What does this fault code mean?
The gear selector has an electrically controlled lock (shift-lock) that is meant to stop it being moved out of position P by accident. Although the code is named signal missing, it applies to a signal to the shift-lock solenoid that is too high. The fault means the lock is not controlled correctly.
Possible causes
- The cable to the shift-lock solenoid is short-circuited to voltage
- Internal fault inside the transmission control unit (TCM)
- Internal fault inside the gear selector unit (GSM)
What you can do
- 1With the ignition on and the selector in N: try to move it without the brake (it should not move), then press the brake and try again (it should move)
- 2Read off the fault code, clear it and check whether it comes back
- 3Check the cable to the shift-lock solenoid for chafing and loose connections, and use a multimeter to check that it is not live
- 4Have a workshop check the connector at the transmission control module and the gear selector module; if no fault is found in the wiring, one of the modules may need replacing
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
