What does this fault code mean?
The speed signal from the sensor on the transmission is used to select the correct gear, and the control module also works out the speed from the engine speed sensor signal. The fault means the control module has registered that the speed signal is too low.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Shorts between the signal wires (+ and -), or from either wire to ground or voltage
- Defective transmission speed sensor
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 2Have a diagnostic tool? Read the transmission speed in live data while driving and see that the value follows how fast the car is going
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal cables to the speed sensor are not shorted to ground or supply voltage, and check the connectors for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4Have a workshop check the speed sensor and the connectors at the control module; if the sensor is faulty it should be replaced
Symptoms you may notice4
- General orange warning lamp on
- No lock-up function
- Harsh gear shifting
- Automatic transmission warning lamp flashing
What the fault can affect1
- The Emergency mode II program has been activated
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
