What does this fault code mean?
The transmission speed sensor sends a speed signal that the control module uses to work out the input shaft speed behind the torque converter. The control module compares this speed with the vehicle speed to calculate the shift points. The fault means the speed signal is too high at higher road speeds.
Possible causes
- The power supply to the sensor is short-circuited to voltage
- Defective input speed sensor
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 2Have a diagnostic tool? Read the transmission speed in live data under acceleration and compare it with the engine speed; the two should follow each other
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the cables to the speed sensor are not live, and that the connectors are free from oxidation and firmly seated
- 4Have a workshop check the speed sensor and the connectors at the control module; if the sensor is faulty it should be replaced

- The control module goes over to the Emergency mode I or Emergency mode II program
