What does this fault code mean?
The speed signal from the sensor on the transmission is used to calculate the input shaft speed behind the torque converter. The control module compares it with vehicle speed to control shift timing, line pressure and lock-up. The fault means the signal is too low when the car is travelling at higher speed.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Signal cable shorted to ground
- Defective speed sensor
- Power supply shorted to ground
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 2Have a diagnostic tool? Press the accelerator during a road test and see that the transmission speed updates and follows the engine speed
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal cable to the sensor is not shorted to ground, and check the connectors for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4Have a workshop check the sensor and the connectors at the control module; if the sensor is defective it should be replaced
Symptoms you may notice4
- General orange warning lamp on
- No lock-up function
- Harsh gear shifting
- Automatic transmission warning lamp flashing
What the fault can affect1
- The Emergency mode I or Emergency mode II program is activated
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
