What does this fault code mean?
The gear selector module (GSM) sits beneath the top panel at the lever carrier and controls the P-position lock together with the transmission control module. The fault means the control module has registered a signal from the P-lock solenoid that is too low, and the selector can then become locked.
Possible causes
- Poor contact in the connections
- The signal cable is shorted to ground
- The P-lock solenoid is not working
- Internal fault inside the gear selector unit (GSM)
What you can do
- 1With the ignition on: try to move the selector out of P without the brake, and then with the brake pressed; it should only move with the brake pressed
- 2Read off the fault code, clear it and check whether it comes back
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the cable between the gear selector module and the solenoid is not shorted to ground
- 4Have a workshop check the connectors at both control modules; if no fault is found in the cable, the solenoid or the circuit board in the top panel may need replacing
Symptoms you may notice3
- General orange warning lamp on
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) on
- The gear selector cannot be moved
What the fault can affect1
- The gear selector is blocked
