What does this fault code mean?
The transmission control module receives a signal from the gear selector module (GSM) that is too low. The fault means the signal from the gear selector module is too low, so the gear position may be shown incorrectly or not at all on the panel.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections
- The communication line is shorted to ground
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault code, clear it and check whether it comes back
- 2Check the connectors at both ends of the communication line for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Press the brake, move the selector through the positions and compare the gear in the instrument panel with the display on the selector panel
- 4If only the instrument panel shows the gear, the circuit board in the top panel may need replacing; a workshop should decide whether the fault lies in other systems
Symptoms you may notice4
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) on
- General orange warning lamp on
- No gear position shown on the gear selector panel
- General warning lamp on
