What does this fault code mean?
The transmission control module drives shift solenoid S4 through its own power stage. The fault means the signal in the circuit to solenoid S4 is too high.
Possible causes
- The signal wire is shorted to voltage
- Internal fault in the control module
What you can do
- 1Have a diagnostic tool? Read the oil temperature in live data; if it does not rise during a road test, the temperature sensor may be at fault
- 2Have a diagnostic tool? With the selector in P, activate solenoid S4 and check that the status switches OFF and ON
- 3Use a multimeter to check whether the lead to solenoid S4 is live when the solenoid is not activated
- 4Have a workshop open the control system and check the lead to the solenoid S4 connector; if no fault is found there, the solenoid may need replacing
Symptoms you may notice5
- General orange warning lamp on
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) on
- Harsh gear shifting
- No gear changes
- No lock-up function
What the fault can affect1
- The control module's Emergency mode I program is activated
