What does this fault code mean?
The transmission control module drives shift solenoid S5 through its own power stage. The fault means the signal in the circuit to solenoid S5 is too high.
Possible causes
- The signal wire is shorted to voltage
- Internal fault in the control module
What you can do
- 1With diagnostic equipment, check that the oil temperature rises during a road test; a faulty oil temperature sensor can cause the fault
- 2Have a diagnostic tool? With the selector in P, activate solenoid S5 and check that the status switches between OFF and ON
- 3Check the lead to solenoid S5 for chafing and for a short to voltage, using a multimeter
- 4Have a workshop open the control system and trace the lead; if no fault is found the solenoid may need replacing
Symptoms you may notice5
- General orange warning lamp on
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) on
- Harsh gear shifting
- No gear changes
- No lock-up function
What the fault can affect1
- The control module's Emergency mode I program is activated
