What does this fault code mean?
The lock-up solenoid SLU has been registered with an intermittent fault: at some point the control module saw the signal wire short-circuited to ground when the solenoid should have been active. The fault does not have to be present now. The solenoid probably cannot be activated then, which affects the lock-up function and certain gear changes.
Possible causes
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
- Defective control module
- Defective solenoid
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the fault code, road test and see whether it returns
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the wire to the lock-up solenoid has no contact with ground (the body)
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: check in live data whether the lock-up solenoid activates while driving and compare with when lock-up should engage
- 4Check that the cable from the gearbox is not chafed or pinched
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop check the control module and the gearbox connectors for contact resistance and oxidation
Symptoms you may notice5
- The orange general warning lamp is lit
- Gear changes do not occur or are irregular
- The lock-up function does not work
- The automatic transmission warning lamp flashes
- The malfunction indicator lamp is lit
What the fault can affect2
- The control module emergency program Emergency mode I is activated
- The control module does not activate the lock-up solenoid
