What does this fault code mean?
Shift solenoid S3 has stuck in the ON position. The control module has noticed that the speed and engine speed signals do not match the expected values and that the wrong gear is engaged. This can affect gear changes, and the car then switches to an emergency program.
Possible causes
- Shift solenoid S3 has mechanically stuck in the ON position
- The solenoid does not function
What you can do
- 1Have a workshop check the transmission fluid level and quality, as the level varies with the oil temperature
- 2If the oil smells burnt or there are metal particles on the dipstick, have a workshop decide whether the gearbox needs replacing
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: activate S3 and listen for a click; if no click is heard, the solenoid has a mechanical fault
- 4Have a workshop inspect the control system for metal particles and dirt, and replace solenoid S3 if the system is clean
- 5After the repair, a workshop should reset the adaptation and the fluid quality counter
Symptoms you may notice2
