What does this fault code mean?
The gear position sensor in the transmission control module is misadjusted or has an internal fault. The code concerns the selector position that the sensor registers from the selector, and in the worst case the engine will not start.
Possible causes
- Misadjusted gear position sensor
- Internal fault inside the TCM
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool: read the selector position in live data and compare it with the display as the selector is moved through every position
- 2Have a workshop check that the selector cable is correctly adjusted and calibrate the gear position sensor
- 3If there are other fault codes for the transmission, have a workshop deal with them first, since they must be traced before this one
- 4If the code remains after calibration, have a workshop replace the transmission control module
Symptoms you may notice3
- The malfunction indicator lamp is lit
- The general warning lamp is lit
- The engine does not start
What the fault can affect1
- An auxiliary program in the control module is activated
